Last drawing at WDFAF

It was about this time, ten years ago, that I did my last official drawing at Walt Disney Feature Animation Florida as it was closing; it was for "The Little Matchgirl", a beautiful if heartbreaking musical short intended for inclusion in a Fantasia sequel. It's one of the five Hans Christian Andersen classics that Disney has depicted in animation, the others being "The Ugly Duckling", "The Little Mermaid", "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" and "Frozen" (based on "The Snow Queen").

Along with a little Mickey, I wrote along the bottom: "Thanks to God for the blessings of a ten-year career at Disney - my dream came true every day."

Caricatures

One of the joys of working in a creative environment is caricaturing your coworkers - usually this involves adhering a copy to a white board, and everyone signs around it for the subject's birthday or special occasion. Most of these here are from my earliest years at Disney, working on "Fantasia/2000".

This was for Roy after his knee operation.

Bears

Back in the early '90s, my absolute favorite place to be was Disneyland - and I'd often sit outside at the Hungry Bear Restaurant and draw stuff like these bears.

Cover of DisneyFiles

I just saw "Saving Mr. Banks" today with my family. I have always considered "Mary Poppins" to be possibly the quintessential Disney classic, and its creation was beautifully dramatized by this wonderful film.

For the Fall issue of "DisneyFiles", the magazine of the Disney Vacation Club, I had the honor of illustrating the cover art. This issue celebrates the new addition to Disney's Grand Floridian Resort, much of which is themed to "Mary Poppins".

Films and shorts

Films I've worked on, including three direct-to-DVD, some shorts, and one for Universal. ("A Few Good Ghosts" was the last feature we were ramping up for at the Florida Studio, before its cancellation.)

1st year student film

This was my first student film at CalArts in 1993. No sound, just a simple pencil test, and it wasn't quite finished. Somehow, it ended up in the Producer's Show that year!

storyboards

These are some of the storyboards I did while at Project Firefly, for "Pooh's Heffalump Halloween", back in 2004. John Hurst and I boarded a majority of the film (direct to DVD).
